Throughout his coaching career, Lorenzo has worked with dozens of ATP and WTA touring professionals including Jim Courier, Pete Sampras and Cara Black. He has traveled extensively coaching players in major professional events including the four Grand Slams, Davis Cup, and Hopman Cup. He has developed numerous top juniors and collegiate players who were recruited by prestigious institutions like William and Mary, Clemson, Georgia Tech, University of Georgia, Harvard, West Point, University of Pennsylvania, Samford, University of Chicago, and Cornell among others.
An award-winning coaching authority, Lorenzo served as Director of Tennis and Athletic Performance Coaching at the Johnson & Johnson Human Performance Institute, formerly LGE Performance Systems, in Orlando, Florida from 1996 to 2016. Prior to joining the Johnson & Johnson Human Performance Institute, he was responsible for developing and running high performance programs at Club Ambrosiano, one of the most prestigious clubs in Milan, Italy and at the Seguso Bassett Tennis Academy in Boca Raton.
Lorenzo has studied and applied Dr. Jim Loehr’s renowned mental training system to a variety of sports for nearly two decades. Having worked with Olympic, professional and collegiate athletes as well as with their coaching staff in a wide variety of sports (tennis, football, basketball, golf, rowing, shooting, cricket, archery, car racing, soccer, surfing, etc.) Lorenzo has developed a vast experience in mental toughness training for both team and individual sports. He has been responsible for the development and delivery of the Mental Toughness Certification Program for coaches at the Human Performance Institute and has helped design and implement critical components of the training.
Lorenzo is featured as guest instructor on seven instructional DVD shows produced by the United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA). The shows are part of the ‘On Court with USPTA’ series and frequently air on The Tennis Channel. He is a sought-after speaker, and is frequently invited to present at numerous national and international conventions and symposia in which he addresses coaches, athletes, medical doctors of professional teams, psychologists and corporate executives.
Lorenzo holds both the USPTA Master Professional and PTR Professional certifications, and is certified as Maestro by the Italian Tennis Federation. He is a USTA specialist in competitive player development, and an ACE certified personal trainer.
In 2007 Lorenzo was awarded the Coach of the Year and “Doc” Counsilman Science Award by the United States Olympic Committee. This award recognizes a coach who utilizes scientific techniques and equipment as an integral part of his/her coaching methods or has created innovative ways to use sport science. Lorenzo was awarded the 2015 Florida Professional Tennis Registry (PTR) Member of the Year, and PTR Professional of the Year in 2016.
